This is the home of Kevin McLaughlin the founder of the clothing store J. McLaughlin. I'm not into their stuff (it's too Lands End and far too white for me) but I am into their home--lots of prints, ethnic-looking patterns, beautiful, lush colour and strongly on the side of traditional.  It took just one look at the spread in Traditional Home Magazine to convince me that the family that lives here is warm and open-minded. And I like that. But I just do not get that from their clothing line---on their website, even the black model looks white. I guess you can't please all the people all the time.

Shut the Front Door

There are dead plants hanging out in my front yard. I've been working a lot and neglecting the front door. So this weekend I am planning to make like a housewife and put myself to use. These pictures, above, are my inspiration.

It's Lacroix Sweetie

It's "Lacroix, sweetie"! That scarf I shall buy so I can wear it to the Absolutely Fabulous movie.

And, can we talk about Spring? I know it's dark and gray outside but can we anticipate a little colour, flower and shine? This Spring I'm keeping my purse clamped shut as far as big ticket items are concerned. But I am still going to treat myself (as every woman should...) to a few lovely little things. I have therefore decided on a scarf, a mid-year diary, a serviceable but-not-too-practical-so that-it's-boring-tote and a watch.

A Night In in London

I think sometimes all one needs to re-charge the batteries is a night out. But I was browsing Tatler the other day and discovered something better-- a night in. What if you could have a plush five star room in a swanky London Hotel, a room decked out nicely with a super queen bed and incredibly plush sheets on a pillowy mattress; and what if the room came with wait staff at the ready and other service personnel catering to your every need, including access to a spa and then a five star breakfast the next morning? Well this is what the Connaught in Mayfair is offering as a Sunday, one night packaged deal. It's a brilliant idea, no? I would take it.

These are images of the Apartment at the Connaught. It's not part of the Sunday deal, but if I stayed at the Connaught, I'd ask for a tour of this and other spaces.

This space belongs to the late Oscar de la Renta. I love all the classic pieces of furniture here.

Bedside Table Solution

 

The first picture in this line of bedrooms is of my bedroom. I had that little Ikea  Rast chest of drawers upholstered in fabric and trimmed in nail head. I can't put much on top of the chest but it does have a little glass container (behind the candle stand) where I can store my earrings when I take them out at night; and that top drawer holds a million different types of night creams,books and my nail filers. The other two  drawers have more hand potions and foot creams, headache medicine, socks, head scarves, tissues and miscellaneous things I reach for at night--like nail polish.

 

This last stand/étagère in the line up is the greatest solution-- best part of it is obviously that it doubles as a bar cart. Nightcap solved. Brilliant!

Bohemia

I had a boyfriend who once told me he knew when I was coming into a room: my ten thousand bracelets and rings sounded like a fire alarm going off to him and it was a sure sign I was about to enter a room. Bohemia is trending again and I am all for it. One can never wear to many rings and things during this trend. Have at it!
